Zy Yazan’s Language Guide: How I Rediscovered Language Learning via AI
Tired of traditional language apps? In this article, I share my personal journey of turning AI into a smart private tutor, featuring practical prompts for linguistic immersion.
When I Stopped “Studying” and Started “Coexisting”: My Journey with AI
When I decided to join the team here at Zy Yazan Platform, I was deeply moved by the core principles we all commit to. The most beautiful among them was this: We believe that language is not just a sequence of words, but a soul that inhabits us when we speak.
For years, like many of you, I jumped between famous language apps, collecting points and maintaining daily “streaks.” Yet, I always hit a solid wall whenever I tried to have a real conversation here in Paris, where I live. I knew the names of fruits in French, but I wasn’t able to engage in a philosophical discussion about beauty or express my sadness with true sincerity. Currently, I am embarking on a new challenge: learning Korean, inspired by my close friend and the company we work with.
The shift happened when I decided to stop using apps that treated me like a child memorizing flashcards. Instead, I began treating Large Language Models (LLMs) as a wise, patient, and infinitely knowledgeable friend. In this reference guide, I share how these tools transformed the concept of a “private tutor” for me, and how you can do the same.
The App Market in 2026: Do We Still Need Them?
Let’s be honest. We are living in 2026, and the options available to us are staggering, but they are not created equal. When evaluating true efficacy, traditional apps often suffer from “linear stagnation.” Here is my personal analysis based on actual experience:
| App | Business Model | True Efficacy (My Experience) |
|---|---|---|
| Duolingo / Babbel | Freemium | Great for building discipline, but keeps you a prisoner of “set templates.” |
| ELSA Speak | Subscription | Highly specialized in pronunciation, but doesn’t teach you how to build a complete thought. |
| Italki / Preply | Pay per session | Excellent human connection, but cost is high and time is limited. |
| LLMs (ChatGPT/Gemini) | Free / Pro | The Great Revolution: Infinite flexibility, contextual dialogues, and near-zero cost. |
The conclusion I’ve reached is that smart AI chatbots aren’t just “extra tools”—they are the true laboratory. Why? Because they don’t force a lesson about “the airport” on you when you are interested in “coding.” They follow your passion, and passion is the primary engine of learning.
The Practical Side: How to Tame AI for Your Benefit?
To move beyond theory, I’ve developed a set of “Mega-Prompts” that I use daily. While I am currently applying these to my Korean studies, these prompts are designed to help the AI understand its role precisely, regardless of your target language.
Prompt 1 — Daily Immersion Plan
Prompt 2 — Real Conversation Practice
Sometimes, I feel like I have a weak memory for new vocabulary. This is where “emotional context” comes in. A word that isn’t tied to a story is a dead word.
Prompt 3 — Vocabulary That Sticks
Prompt 4 — Role Play Real Life
Why We Trust This Path at “Zy Yazan Platform”?
In our daily work at the platform, we realize that a great translator isn’t someone who has a dictionary in their head, but someone who possesses “cultural flexibility.” AI, when engaged sincerely, gives you this flexibility. It makes mistakes sometimes, just like humans, and that is part of its charm; it forces you to think critically about what it says, deepening your understanding of the language.
“True learning begins when the limits of the app end and the freedom of dialogue begins. AI is the bridge I crossed from the shore of the ‘fearful learner’ to the shore of the ‘confident speaker’.”
This article is just the foundation. In the coming parts, we will dive into how to transform these conversations into a “Personal Knowledge Base” and how to develop deep listening skills. We look forward to hearing about your experiences with these prompts in the comments.
